SOS AUG Sketch - "Happy Memories"

Can you believe we are more than half way through August?!!!  OH MY - where does the time go??

Well, that must mean it is time for the 2nd challenge of the month from Scrap Our Stash and get ready to use up lots of your "STASH," because it is a DOUBLE CHALLENGE!

Not only is there a really cool sketch for you to use, there is also a "BINGO" board that you can select 3 items (in a row) to include in your layout too!!  How FUN is that?!!!

Sooo....  here is the Sketch and the Bingo Board - and be sure to CHECK OUT all of the RULES on the SCRAP OUR STASH BLOG too!

After selecting my photo ( one of my Mom and I at a play ) and searching through my "stash"  - I decided to go with the 3 squares on the left of the board - TAG(s) | Polka Dots | Yellow - as the paper pack I wanted to use really fit in with the colors of the photo, and 2 of the items on the board ( Polka Dots and Yellow.) I just LOVED Simple Stories "DIY Boutique" when I first saw.  I've had this pack for a while and have been dying to use it.  I think it worked out perfectly!

"Happy Memories"

I decided to make my circle out of various brads, and different bling - I am really happy with how it came out - I love the mix of different size, heights and finishes.

The photo is a "SELFIE" that we took while waiting for the play to begin - It was at an odd angle, so I tilted it when I added it to the layout and I "popped" it with foam tape, on 3 sides, and made a pocket to add my tag for journaling - and also to satisfy the 3rd item on the bingo board too!

Here are a few more close ups:

Hoping you will play along with us this month at Scrap Our Stash!!  Trust me, this is a real fun challenge and a great way to use up some of your STASH!!  ( so you can buy more! LOL!)

The Memory Nest "MIM" #46 "Disney Crusin' "

Happy MONDAY everyone!   It is time for The Memory Nest's 2nd Sketch Challenge of August!

Leslie has given us another really COOL Sketch to work with this month!
For FULL Challenge DETAILS and PRIZE info - please visit THE MEMORY NEST BLOG!

HOW FUN RIGHT?!!!

When I saw the circles - I remembered a had some "White Simple Circles" by Jillybean Soup left from a diecut sheet I had previously used, and after searching through (piles of) photos to scrap - I pick this one, of "my guys" on our Disney Fantasy Cruise from January 2014.   I then knew I wanted to use this really cool base paper from Reminisce, and a brand new piece of 12x12 from Scrap Your Trip - "Magic Cruise"  Then, realizing that the base paper I selected was a little thin, and would need some re-enforcement, I trimmed it a bit, and glued it to a piece
of "White Corrugated Sheet" by Fancy Pants Design.
I painted the anchor, and went around the edges with a Black Sharpie marker.

I decided to make a pocket out of the photo and mat.  I used 2 sided foam tape along the sides and the bottom, leaving the top open.  This allowed me to journal on a tag I cut out using a Tim Holtz die, and slip it in the pocket.  I wrote a little about out trip on it - and embellished it with paper, and a little life preserver Mickey head that I fussy cut out, and added with a pop dot to the tag.
I used a circle punch to cut out the cute little Mickey heads and DCL Logos from the Scrap Your Trip paper. I inked their edges, and then added them to the inside of the circle grid, using foam dots.
After cutting all the "flags" for the banner - I realized that the Red Polka Dot letters that I wanted to use, would not work on all of the banners/flags in my "DISNEY" Title - so I used black letters on the flags that were red.  I also forgot to ink the flags/banners, before punching holes in their tops, stringing them with the bakers twine, and then adding them to my layout with foam 3D dots.   To "fix" this, I carefully went around the edges with a fine tip black Sharpie marker.

Challenge YOUrself Blog - "Keep Calm and.....?"

OH!!!  I was SOO Excited when I saw this Challenge come up at the

Create a Layout using this quote:
"Keep Calm and....."

It is one of my favorite sayings - and I knew just how I was going to finish it - and had the perfect photo to scrap too!   Can you guess what I do to "Keep Calm???......"

Well...  if you haven't guessed by now.... I chose
 "Keep Calm and Cruise Disney!"
- I know, I know - I bet you are all VERY surprised about that!! LOL!!

Here is the layout I came up with!  I've got a bunch of 8x10 photos that we have purchased while cruising over the years.  I think I will try to use them other "non-sketch" challenges in the future.      As you can see - I am in this photo, along with my oldest son, my hubby, and 2 of my FAVORITE Disney Characters!!
This photo was taken somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on our "WBTA" West Bound Trans Atlantic Cruise, on The Disney MAGIC, in Sept of last year.  I love how the ADRIFT Collection has a little teal in some of the paper and embellishments - I think it worked perfectly with my son's shirt and just "pops" off the page.

With the photo being so large - I had to find a way to add different papers, and embellishments.  I LOVE how the base page - Basic Grey's ADRIFT "Sailor" plays off of Goofy and Donald's striped Sailor shirts!!  I just about squealed out loud when opened my collection pack and saw how well it went!!  I then cut banners out of some of the other patterns in the collection and stuck them behind the top and bottom of the photo, adding bits and pieces of embellishments along each side too.
I found the "Keep Calm and Cruise Disney" during a Google search.  I printed it out on photo paper, and then triple matted it.  I was able to put it over a blank space in the top corner of the large photo. LOVE that Donald Duck!!

I've had this sticker/title for quite a while.... and I thought it was about time that I use it.  Here you can see how the banners have a little "lift" on the pointy ends - I usually only run a line of adhesive tape along the edge that I tuck under the photo - as I think it gives the layout more dimension/layers that way.
Here are the items used :

Basic Grey - Adrift Collection
- PAPERS:Anchors/Sailor/Ahoy/Starboard/Ropes
- Mixed Brads
- Diecut Cardstock and Transparencies
Bazill Cardstock: Admiral / Red Rock / unknown "Teal"
Ranger Distress Stains:  Blueprint Sketch / Barn Door / Peacock Feather / Picket Fence / Tarnished Brass
Mickey Bling
Brads
* All of these items were purchased at my local Scrapbook Store  Scrap-a-Doodle Doo - They have an on-line store too!  Check them out at www.shopthedoo.com

Thanks for stopping by -  I can't wait to see what  "Keeps YOU Calm!"  I hope you play along with us at the Challenge YOUrself Blog!

SOS AUGUST Word Challenge "PAPER"

Hello my Scrappy friends!!   It is time for the first August Challenge from Scrap Our Stash!

This month - the word is " P A P E R "  so - your Challenge is to use "STUFF" from your "STASH" that begins with those letters  - FULL DETAILS / RULES and other DT Inspiration can be found on the Scrap Our Stash Blog!

So..... I went through my Stash, and came up with the following layout -

The Graduate!

I just am just LOVING these WORD Challenges!  This is a photo from my youngest son Jake's Middle School Graduation, in 2009!! I've had these photos printed for some time - only about 6 years!!!  - It is one of my favorite pictures of Jake.  I loved it so much that I printed it in 2 different sizes!  I sometimes like to repeat the same photo on a layout - if it is one that I feel is really special, and sometimes use it in different sizes, and/or using different filters too.  Since I had printed it in black and white, I decided to use that color(less) pallet for my layout too.

I've had these papers and embellishments since that time too, and I am so happy this challenge pushed me to finally scrap them, and use up some of my stash!!

I even used one of the 2 pieces of 12x12 Acetate that I have held onto, and wasn't sure what to do with, (why I had 2 of them - I don't know!)  After painting around the edges of the base black flocked and silver graduation caps page, I added the feather, and the 2 matted photos.  I then covered the page with the Acetate sheet, but added some score tape between the base and the acetate, under where I knew I would be placing the title.  I then secured it by using 4 Black Eyelets ( one in each corner)  I I love how this layout came out!  I hope you will play along with us this month too!  Here are the items I used for the challenge:
P - Photo corners ( the old school black ones)
A - Arrow (brad,) Acetate
P - Paint ( White Ranger Distress Paint)
E - Eyelets, to secure the Acetate on all 4 corners
R - Rhinestones, Reminisce "Hat Toss" Flocked paper

Here are some close ups for you:

I hope you will play along with us at SCRAP OUR STASH this month too!  Thanks for stopping by! I'd love to hear from you and can't wait to see what you will create!

The Memory Nest "MIM" #45 Hard Rock Fun!

It is time for another SKETCH Challenge over at
The Memory Nest Blog!!

Crystal created a SUPER FUN Sketch for you
to play along with!!  Take a look!

I started looking through my photos and found 2 from way back in 2008!!  I can't believe they were taken 7 years ago!!!  I've always loved the textured look of the "waves" in these shots and really wanted to FINALLY use these photos!  I liked the concept of the sketch - having one bigger center photo, with 2 smaller ones on the sides.  I wasn't sure if I could make the sketch work with just 2 photos - but I think I was able to pull it off by using a journaling card, washi tape and layered puffy stickers for the smaller one on the right - what do you think?

This photo was taken of my husband, my oldest son and me while visiting Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, SC.  (My youngest son didn't want to be in the picture - I guess he thought he was too cool - but, looking at this picture - I think WE are the "COOL" ones! LOL!)

This was in August of 2008.  The Park was brand new. It had just opened in April of that year.  It had different sections with different music in each.

There was a great 150 ft tall rollercoaster that blasted Led Zepplin music, another ride was a little British Mini car-coaster that played hits of the 1980s.  "Life in the Fast Lane" was a mine train roller coaster that played the Eagles song while riding it. Slippery When Wet was a suspended roller coaster in the "Born in the USA" section. Nights in White Satin was a ride in the dark - Seriously a FUN Park - we were so sad that it closed in September of that same year!!  We are so lucky we got to spend a very fun / but HOT day there!

I double matted my base page with a piece of orange pattern paper, and solid aqua cardstock. I then tore a strip of orange and aqua print paper and added it along the bottom. I sprayed the base papers with Glimmer Mist, to mimic the splatters on the sketch.

The large photo was purchased from the Park.  The smaller one was take by my son Jake.  I love using the same or similar photos in the same layout. - and I LOVE that Washi tape - don't you?

Here you can see the layered puffy stickers and part of the "HOT"  flying guitar sticker embellie - I just had to add it!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you jump right in and give this sketch a try!  I can't wait to see what you will do with it!
